What is feminine
hygiene?
Feminine hygiene can be defined as taking care of a woman's
most intimate areas. These are very sensitive and delicate parts of the female
body, consisting of mucous tissue with a characteristic bacterial flora that
performs a protective function. Therefore, it is very dominant to know why, how, and with what means you should take care of your intimate areas.
Why is it so important to uphold intimate hygiene in summer?
The answer is simple. In summer, the risk of vaginal
infections is increased by heat, sweating, and contact with wet environments.
Maintaining good feminine hygiene means preventing and
eliminating discomfort in the intimate area. Some of the most common conditions
are vaginal inflammation or urinary tract infections:
Vaginal inflammation: These are called vulvovaginitis
and can have different causes. The most common is a toadstool infection caused
by the fungus Candida albicans, which is characterized by itching and thick,
white vaginal discharge. In other cases, it can be caused by bacteria such as
Trichomonas, then it is characterized by a greenish-yellow vaginal discharge,
fishy odor, and itching. And we can also detect vulvovaginitis due to allergic
reactions or hormonal changes such as menopause (the most common vaginal
inflammation is called vulvovaginitis. Its symptoms are profuse vaginal
discharge, foul odor, itching, redness, etc.).
Urinary Tract Infections: The most common urinary
tract infection is a bladder infection (cystitis). The symptoms of cystitis are
painful urination, a constant need to urinate, and blood in the urine.
To avoid discomfort in the intimate area, it is important to
maintain the natural pH of the vagina, maintain its own bacterial flora and
prevent bacteria from multiplying.
One way to maintain the natural pH of the vagina is to use
products specially formulated for the intimate area. Therefore, if you want to
avoid vaginal infections in the summer, try not to use the same products when
treating your intimate area and the rest of your body.
